THE BEN JONAS GOLF DEVELOPMENT TRUST
– KING WILLIAM’S TOWN, EASTERN CAPE

Over the past decade Ben Jonas has become one of the Eastern Cape’s top golfers, boasting numerous national tournament titles under his belt. Currently Jonas holds the King William’s Town course record of 63, and plays off a scratch handicap.

Hailing from Ginsberg, a community acclaimed for their rich resource of golf talent, Jonas, along with fellow regional golfers, have embarked on programme to further uplift and promote the golf culture and talent within this Eastern Cape community. Having secured the generous sponsorship of Tsogo Sun, as well as investments from prominent individuals, the Ben Jonas Development Trust has now set its sights on developing the community of young golfers in the Eastern Cape as a whole.

Presently there are virtually no initiatives at the community level to build on the talent of these young golfers. Through the quarterly tournaments hosted by The Ben Jonas Trust, the Trust has been able to assist with critical resources, such as; equipment, coaching and fees for these aspirant golfers.

However, many of these youngsters cannot even satisfy their basic need for food, educations and transport. While there are golf academies around the country, the Trust has the potential to grow into a community-based regional golf academy by bringing in a greater pool of talent into the sport. In addition, the Trust is actively working with the relevant sports departments in order to connect these young people into the sports-development programmes in the province.

To become involved in such a worthy event, please contact Ben Jonas on 073 959 8191
